Speaking with a friend yesterday, it occurred to me that perhaps more important than what we leave behind when we die (records we’ve made, photos we have taken); is what dies with us. This is a video of Jim Chapin at 82 years old. He’s demonstrating a drum technique he learned from his teacher in the late thirties. His teacher learned from studying the playing of drummer boys from the American Civil War, but it dates back to the Middle Ages.
