“Honk if you’re horny. Bogle if you’re bored. Toot if you’re cute.” And repeat. It’s the Thugs & Hugs Notting Hill Carnival mantra 2008. This year we’re bringing it back - in collaboration with Dazed & Confused mag - introducing a very special trinity from New York City; Dante Lorenzo Gonzales, Rye Rye and Leif AKA the exclusive London debut of the Dante Fried Chicken show.

This year’s live performances come from Diplo’s Mad Decent signing Baltimore rapstress Rye Rye and hyped new NYC MC Leif (signed to the Palms Out Sound label). DJ support is hefty: Caspa (Rusko’s Dub Police and Fabriclive dubstep partner), LuckyMe founders Dom Sum and FineArt alongside Thugs & Hugs residents Patchwork Pirates and Gigolo “The Mixx” Knight, Nuff Rope’s Questrel, DJ Element from the Labrats AND very special secret guests.

What is Dante Fried Chicken?!
DFC is the hottest underground party and online TV show in NYC - taking over rooftops, warehouses, parks and clubs which Dante (a celebrated NYC soul food chef from Jean’s Cook Up catering) hosts and caters for. During the day Dante shoots the episode of the “subterranean” variety cooking show with the DJs/artists that will perform at the party and later caters the party with that episode’s menu. Previous show guests include Santogold, MIA, Yo Majesty, Spank Rock, Kudu, Mapei, Blaqstarr, Jimmy Edgar, Newcleus… A sample tapas taster plate reads like - Jean’s Sock-it-to-me- Fried Chicken, gumbo empanadas, yam banana catfish, Jean’s Coconut Mac N Cheese… Dante will be creating an exclusive Thugs & Hugs Carnival menu for the party.

Thugs & Hugs is the party founded by east London vigilantes Patchwork Pirates and Gigolo “The Mixx” Knight. The worldwide bass jam just shook Barcelona to the ground, ground during this year’s Sonar Festival with Dazed & Confused and Scotland’s infamous creative cartel LuckyMe (Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, Nadsroic, Dom Sum, FineArt, Ballers Social Club) where Yo! Majesty appeared as secret
guests. The past-Thugs roll call includes Sinden (Get Familiar), Todda T (1965), edIT (Glitch Mob), DJ Jackmaster (Numbers/Dress2Sweat/Wireblock), Rusko (Dub Police), Starkey (Trouble & Bass), ZombieDiscoSquad (Get Rude), MofoMatronix (Turbo Crunk)…
