Wake Radio Interview
Bobby Evans: One thing that really pushed us towards the drums was this idea of us being able to create the music, to create everything as it was actually happening in front of a live audience. And so, for me, I was just DJing the whole time, I was trying to push that as much as possible, to be able to have something that is different every night and have something for me that allowed a certain amount of risk, so you can fail every night, as well. So you can have those really special nights where you really succeed in everything. So Jimmy started playing drums really intensely again, and it really got me back into it, too. That by itself totally solved this riddle of being able to create everything at the moment. So, we started playing together without even the idea of it still being Brother Reade or it being any kind of project, but more just to be playing drums. One day we started writing, and were like, dude, this could totally be us.
Jams F. Kennedy: That was your thing; you were just like, why isn’t this just our music, why don’t we just do this? And it was so weird, but it was really natural because it really stemmed from that frustration of being in front of audiences all the time and wanting to kind of create a circuit. The particular audience and the energy that they put forth has a lot to do with the show that you put out. That happens a lot with a DJ rap set, but the horizons of it are really close. As soon as we started doing it, it was like, yeah, this is how it’s gonna be.
